Abstract:
On Orthographical Questions of Spacecraft Names
There is no orthographical regulation of the Hungarian astronomical language at present, and there are only a few rules on writing the names of objects. This leads to the fact that several orthographical varieties of the same spacecraft name can be found in astronomical texts, for exam-ple. The main issues are the following: marking the extension of the name (which elements are parts of it and which ones are used as explanations), usage of acronyms, hyphenization of com-pounds containing proper names and common nouns, usage of Arabic or Roman numerals in type designations, as well as joining derivation endings to names. These questions must be addressed when orthographical regulations of this field will be compiled. In the present work existing prac-tices are evaluated and analyzed in view of the general orthographical rules that are relevant to the field. Best practices are shown and recommendations are presented.
