Abstract:
Every urban place has its own legendry, which rests on the memories of local residents, and, in a wider sense, the common remembrance. This essay tries to examine the interactions of personal memories and collective myths related to the Klauzal Square (Klauzál tér) and those famous people who lived there in the surrounding area in the Inner Elisabeth Town (Belső-Erzsébetváros), the 7th District of Budapest. The research is based on the oral history – interviews by the author and by other independent actors – and on sources of different genres – films, lyrics of the erstwhile progressive rock-band LGT and personal
observations – too.
