Abstract:
At the end of 1938 German catapult ship Schwabenland left the docks of Hamburg to execute a secret task in the southern Ocean: the aerial survaying and mapping of the Antarctic mainland area between the longitudes 12° W and 20° E. Officially the expedition was a scientific journey, but in the background, Nazi Germany prepared to claim for herself a South Polar district. Norway also vindicated sovereignity rights over the region.
