RIVERBED MATERIAL CLASSIFICATION USING GEOPHYSICAL MEASUREMENTS

Abstract

This thesis presents the outcome of a fluvial GPR survey that was executed on the River Danube to analyze the relationship between riverbed sediment quality and GPR wave amplitude. After processing the GPR data, the corrected amplitudes were compared to the grain size distribution and porosity of some sediment samples collected at the survey sites. As a result, GPR amplitude was found inversely proportional to porosity, in agreement with the theoretical amplitude-reflectivity curve.
