Abstract:
This thesis considers the functional role of songs and games in second language acquisition in children ages 3-6. Through interviews and class observations, it investigates how songs and games meet the requirements for second language learning of young children, and analyses this in relation to Carol Read’s eight categories for optimal learning, also known as the C-Wheel. The author concludes that songs and games provide the optimal conditions for second language learning in very young children.
