Disfluencies in mildly intellectually disabled young adults’ spontaneous speech
Date: 2019
Abstract:
The study analyzes various hesitations and repairs in the spontaneous speech of mildly
intellectually disabled women. The main research questions of the study focus on the
similarities and differences in the frequency of disfluencies and the duration of pauses
between the spontaneous speech of mildly intellectually disabled and mentally healthy
young adults. Our results show that hesitation phenomena were more frequent among
intellectually disabled subjects in spontaneous speech, while repairs occurred more
frequently among control subjects in guided spontaneous speech.
