Abstract:
Kilij Arslan Seljuq Sultan of Rum was involved in the war operations against the three main military waves of the first crusade in Asia Minor. He was the leader of the Turkish forces against the People's Crusade and the first (1096-1099) and the second Princes' Crusades as well. The theatre in the ter-ritory of the Sultanate of Rum seems less important in the historiography of the First Crusade than the Syrian or the Palestinian battlefields. The paper fo-cuses on the performance of Kilij Arslan against the crusaders between 1096 and 1101. In this time period he tried to stop the crusader waves to reach the inner territory of Asia Minor and breaking through into Syria.
