Abstract:
After the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact the Reunited Germany had to face the dilemma: what should be done with the Bundeswehr and how does German foreign policy fit in the new international community? This study focuses on the German humanitarian and peacekeeping missions in Kambodia, Somalia, the Persian Gulf and in the Caucasus. It is especially interresting to note how the Kohl government tried to accustom the German opposition, press and of course the popluation to the military handling of conflicts outside the North Atlantic area.
