Few people know that the Hungarian government representatives, who acted as signatories at the Trianon peace dictate in the Grand Trianon palace of Versailles, had covered other roles as well during the Great War. Dr. Benárd Ágost (Welfare and Labor minister in 1920) as an army physician regiment colonel, served fifty month of front line service. and according to the medals received during the war, together with the military log of the Hungarian Royal 31st (Veszprém) Foot Regiment testify that he fought all the war years honorably and decently. His military deeds and his war letters to his son bring the war to a tangible closeness. The other signer of Trianon, Drasche-Lázár Alfréd (extraordinary ambassador and mandate minister, the vice-foreign minister in this capacity) lived the war experience at the home front. But not in ordinary circumstances and also delivered special missions. Between 1914 and 1917, in the capacity of department councilor, and after 1918 with the title of minister councilor, he directed the First Presidential department of the Prime Minister´s Office. Between 1915 and 1917, he also directed the 4th (press) department of the Prime Minister´s Office. He represented the Prime Ministerís Office in the Military Survey Committee (Military Survey Office), which was responsible for the press control as well. Drasche-Lázár controlled the press subcommittee until Prime Minister Tisza´s 1917 spring resignation, which was responsible for the entire supervision and publishing of the Hungarian press. In this capacity, he acted as the supreme censor of the state. This study will present their operations and activities during the First World War.hu_HU
