Abstract:

Mindeddig a magyar szakirodalomban a Hunfalvy János által magyarított földgömbök között kereshettük a prágai Felkl cég gyártotta első magyar nyelvű glóbuszt (Ambrus-Fallenbüchl 1964; Füsi 1966; Klinghammer 1969, 1973, 1998, 2002, 2017; Irmédi-Molnár 1971; Papp-Váry 1983, 2007; Horváth 1986; Márton 2010a, b; Lovizer 2013). De az újabb cseh szakirodalom (Novotná 2017) is ugyanitt kutakodik, igaz, a magyar forrásokat (is) idézve. Ha mélyebben belegondolunk a kérdésbe, felvetődhet a gondolat: Miért is ne Gönczy Pál magyarított glóbuszai között bújna meg az első? Gönczy korai földgömbjei közül viszonylag keveset ismerünk. Tudjuk róla, hogy nemcsak a prágai Felkl-lel, de a berlini Schotte céggel (Papp-Váry 2013) is együttműködött magyar nyelvű földgömbök kiadásában.Érdekes adalékul szolgálhat azonban a kérdés vizsgálatakor Plihál (2016) azon megjegyzése is, hogy Felkl „vállalkozása kezdetén a glóbuszok nyomatai még részben Lipcsében készültek Hermann Kunsch nyomdájában, valamint Kutschera’s Steindr, Liebisch und Wagner lith. cégnél”. Ennek tükrében pedig a legutóbbi időkig több jelölt is „pályázhatott” az első helyre. Az utóbbi bő évtizedben napvilágot látott fizetős vagy szabad hozzáférésű virtuális gyűjtemények minden területen nagyban szolgálják a kutatásokat, és új ismeretek sorát köszönhetjük ezeknek. A megszülető eredmények azonban nem-csak a közzététel következményei, hanem annak is, hogy a közzétevők egy-egy ritkaságszámba menő anyaguk leírásával jutnak el új felfedezésekhez. Ha csak a nem túl gazdag – ma még mindösszesen 150 tételt bemutató – magyar Virtuális Glóbuszok Múzeuma (http://terkeptar.elte.hu/vgm) alig több mint 10 esztendős működését tekintjük, nyugodtan kijelenthetjük, hogy alapjaiban formálta át a hazai glóbuszkiadással, pontosabban a magyar nyelvű glóbuszok igen gyakran nem hazai kiadásával kapcsolatos ismereteinket, de rámutatott a nem magyarországi működésű, de magyar származású glóbuszkészítők tevékenységére is. Vajon Hunfalvy vagy Gönczy a nyerő ebben a „versenyben”? Egyikük sem! Látjuk majd, hogy mint oly gyakran az életben, a „nevető harmadik”, a magyar térképtörténetben mindeddig szinte ismeretlen Schirkhuber Móric a győztes. Jelen tanulmányukban a szerzők azt a kérdéskört vizsgálják, hogy milyen (oktatási) törvényi háttér serkentette a magyar nyelvű földgömbök nagyszámú megjelenését, valamint hogy glóbuszokat nagy példányszámban előállítani képes magyar gyártó akkoriban nem lévén, melyik külhoni kiadó az a 19. század második felében, amelyik az első magyar nyelvű földgömböt elkészítette, és kik voltak e glóbuszkiadás magyar résztvevői.

Abstract:

Until now, the Hungarian literature (Ambrus-Fallenbüchl 1964; Füsi 1966; Klinghammer 1969, 1973, 1998, 2002, 2017; Irmédi-Molnár 1971; Papp-Váry 1983, 2007; Horváth 1986; Márton 2010a, b; Lovizer 2013) searched for the first Hungarian-language terrestrial globe among those that were produced by the Felkl globe-making factory in Prague and translated by János Hunfalvy. The newest Czech literature (Novotná 2017) – citing Hungarian sources too – is also researching here. However, on the second thought, the question may arise: Why should not the first globe hide among the globes translated by Pál Gönczy? We know relatively little about Gönczy's early globes. We know that he collaborated not only with Felkl in Prague, but also with the Schotte company in Berlin (Papp-Váry 2013) in publishing Hungarian-language globes.However, Plihál’s (2016) remark that “at the beginning of Felkl’s business, the prints of the globes were still partly made in Leipzig by Hermann Kunsch and Kutschera’s Steindr, Liebisch und Wagner lith. company” may also be an interesting addition when examining the issue. In the light of this, until recently, several candidates could “apply” for the first place.Paid or free-access virtual collections, which became known in the last decade, are a great source of research in all fields, and we owe a range of new knowledge to them. However, the results are not only a consequence of the publication, but also the fact that the publishers come to new discoveries by describing their rare material.If we only look at the just over ten-year operation of the not-so-rich Hungarian Virtual Globes Museum (http://terkeptar.elte.hu/vgm), which now presents only 150 items, we can safely say that it has very often fundamentally reshaped our knowledge of the Hungarian globe edition, more precisely, our knowledge related to the non-domestic publishing of Hungarian-language globes; further, it also pointed out the operation of globe makers not working in Hungary but of Hungarian origin. Is Hunfalvy or Gönczy the winner in this “race”? None of them! We will see that, as so often in life, the “laughing third”, Móric Schirkhuber, who is almost unknown in the Hungarian map history so far, is the winner.The authors examine the question of the (educational) legal background that stimulated the appearance of the Hungarian-language globes. Further, as there was no Hungarian manufacturer capable of producing large number of copies of globes, which foreign publisher was in the second half of the 19th century which produced the first Hungarian-language globe, and who were the Hungarian participants in this globe edition?
