Abstract:
The bogumil heresy is based on the antique manicheism, which was developed in the Bulgarian Empire in the middle of the 10th century. The idea of this heresy rapidly spread on the Northern Balkans, mainly through trade. Later these ideas appeared in
the Grand Principality of Serbia and in Bosnia, however they were not accepted on the Croatian and Dalmatian territories. According to some Hungarian scientific researches the concept of bogumilism appeared on the southern parts of the Hungarian
Kingdom in the 11th century. Although the main teaching of the bogumilism was maintained in its original form, in some regions the ideas were slightly changed. In the literature which deals with the bogumil heresy these different ideas are consistently considered as a whole concept of bogumilism. We may define the presence of the bogumilism on the territories where the influence of the Church was not strong enough, furthermore it was influenced by the pagan ideas, as we can see in Bosnia and the Serbian territories, however in Dalmatia and Croatia it could not happen. The Hungarian historical resources were mainly occupied with the sporadic presence of heresy on the territories of the southern part of the Hungarian Kingdom in the 11th century, the difficulties in understanding other foreign languages, primarily the southern Slavic languages, oft en prevented the use of the results of foreign resources. The aim of this study is to summarize the results of the researches of the bogumil
heresy in the southern Slavic and Anglo-Saxon scientific literature.
