Abstract:
This paper intends to find correlations between the notion of (mono)dialogue and auto-criticism, that is, respectively, between Miguel de Unamuno’s proposal and Salvador Elizondo’s short fiction. This comparative study will use particular examples of both authors’ work. It will study “Y va de cuento”, a little discussed yet vital short story, in order to discover Unamuno’s thinking, that will be compared to the Mexican author’s short stories, principally to those that constitute his anthology El grafógrafo. This paper will focus on
several correlations between the two authors, but basically their preference for a non-mimetic literature (the anti-story and the anti-novel), as well as the use of an auto-reflexive and metaliterary discourse.
